PRE-OPERATIVE PROCEDURE INSTRUCTIONS Please discontinue the following medications prior to the procedure: Blood thinners, including Plavix, Coumadin, Aspirin, Pletal, Heparin, Lovenox should be discontinued for at least 7 to 10 days. Do not discontinue without a physician's permission. Diet Pills - 10 days to 2 weeks Herbal supplements - 7 days If you are on blood pressure medications, please take them in the morning with a small sip of water. If you have diabetes, please do not take your oral diabetic medications until after the procedure. All patients should inform their Primary Care Physician about any upcoming procedure or surgery. Do not eat or drink anything for 8 hours prior to the scheduled procedure. No food, water, coffee, or other liquids. No gum, candy, or mints. Life threatening dangers due to eating and drinking before surgery include vomiting, aspiration and pneumonia. Any patient receiving sedation must have a ride home with a responsible adult (18 years or older). You MAY NOT take a taxi or public transportation. A responsible adult should be with the patient for the first 24hours.
